hotel is situated on the North side of the bay, in a crescent down to the beach and restaurant.
The units are "Grass Shack Bungalows". They are not actually grass shacks. They are very pleasant
wood and rock bungalows disguised as grass shacks. Each bed ( a double and a single), even has
the mosquito netting over it. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the guests are rarely in them.
They are laying around the natural rock swimming pool
or lounging on the beach. It is the perfect
place for relaxing vacation getaway. Guests can literally sit under a palapa, with a book and
do nothing. The only noise is the waves lapping up on shore. There are all kinds of activities
available, at super rates. Like; Horse back riding, hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, para-sailing,
fishing, ecology tours, sailing, personal water craft and kayaks, but nobody from the hotel pushes
guests to try any of them.
There are no roads to Yelapa. Everything goes in and out by boat, including the guests. There is
about a 25 minute bus or taxi ride to the jump off point (Boca de Tomatlan) and a 20 minute ride
in an open boat (a panga). But that’s all right. Because if there was a road, this paradise
wouldn’t last long. And it is a paradise. The hotel turns on the generator (you can’t hear it) at
dusk and turns it off when everybody finally goes off to bed. There are candles for the nocturnal
trip to the bathroom. There is a radio phone, fax and Internet hookup in the office. This is a
great place to book the client that wants to get away from it all, for a while, or a honeymoon. It
is also a very special place for a wedding and the hotel handles them beautifully.
